Full Enrollment at Guangxi Normal University
Simply put, GXNU is one of China's most beautiful and diverse universities. Course selections include listening, reading, spoken and written Chinese courses, as well as dance lessons, traditional Chinese art, Kung Fu, Tai Ji, and Yoga. CLI also offers two to three English-taught courses each semester covering topics ranging from history and economics to political science, cross-cultural communication, and international relations.
*Due to university scheduling, only students who begin their coursework in early March or early September have the opportuntiy to attend GXNU language courses.*
A central part of your CLI semester abroad will be one-on-one intensive Mandarin lessons. One-on-one training is essential to quick improvement in all aspects of the Chinese language. Students have the option of attending either three or ten hours per week of one-on-one language lessons (see Intensive Option).
Total cost of rent and utilities is completely covered by your program tuition. All living accommodations include heating and A/C, hot and cold shower water (some sinks do not have hot water), and a moderately high-speed internet connection. Apartment arrangements additionally include a washing machine, refrigerator and cable television. Students living in a private room at CLI receive a 100 rmb monthly utility stipend, while all other students receive a 200 rmb monthly utility stipend. The average 3-person family utility usage in Guilin is about 200 rmb per month.
Airport Pick-up and Drop-off
From the moment you arrive in Guilin until the day you leave, CLI will be there to assist you in your traveling needs. Airport pick-up and drop-off is a small but important service that is provided to all CLI students.
CLI's pre-session orientation is designed to familiarize students with their new living and learning environment. Your orientation includes a large welcome lunch with the local team and other program participants, an in-depth tour of Guilin, and a comprehensive introduction on how to make the most of CLI’s intensive Chinese coursework. We ask that students arrive on the Saturday prior to their first day of class.
CLI provides one travel excursion per every two months of a student’s stay in Guilin. You will visit and tour culturally, politically and economically significant sites throughout southern China, including Nanning, Yangshuo, Longsheng, Kunming, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and more!
In order to build a more vibrant learning community, CLI invites all program participants and Chinese student-roommates to take part in our weekly activities, including group potlucks, tours of Guilin and its surroundings, guest lectures at GXNU, boat rides on the beautiful Li River, and various supplemental language activities.
Maid service is provided once per week regardless of housing option.
A wide range of questions and concerns arise during a student’s preparation to live abroad. With extensive experience living, studying and working in China, our team of international educators can assist you with all inquiries that may arise.
CLI provides all semester students with assistance in obtaining a six- to 12-month student (F) visa. Visa costs are the responsibility of the student and are not included in tuition fees. As recommended by our university affiliate, Guangxi Normal University (GXNU), all students should travel to Guilin on a three-month tourist (L) visa and, upon arrival in Guilin, GXNU will process the student (F) visa.
